The History of Deppe Agriculture and Music Pavilion

In the fall of 2009, The concept of an agricultural center serving Eastern N.C. was developed by Victoria Costner and Rob Norris. After months of planning and concept development the idea of creating a venue that would host agriculture related events blossomed into a an event center that would focus on the promotion of agriculture and related industry through tractor pulls, concerts, festivals, haunted trails and various other activities that would bring the community closer to the rich agricultural history of Eastern N.C. Based on research of the area, the two found that there was a strong need for an agricultural center to serve Onslow County and the surrounding areas. This further fueled the fire to create a venue that was affordable for families and that could bring the local residents and the military together for agricultural events.

That concept grew quickly with the importance of promoting agriculture as its focal point. The property search began and the venue was eventually located in the Deppe township of Onslow county Just outside of Jacksonville, N.C., one of North Carolina's fastest growing and tenth largest city in the state. The current Deppe Rd. location is a perfect fit as the zoning was already in place for agriculture purposes. In the spring of 2010, a 27 acre tract became home to the Deppe Agriculture Center.

With the property acquired, the two started the planning phase of their first event, a NTPA sanctioned National Tractor and Truck Pull to be held in May of 2010. The event brought over 40 pullers from all over the country and exceeded 4,000 spectators during the two day event. The association was so impressed with the venue that they awarded a second event for the fall of 2010, which is almost unheard of. The most impressive thing during the event was the overwhelming community support and the request for more events of all types.

In the early summer of 2010, the Deppe Agriculture Center partnered with Brian Wolfe, a well known live music entrepreneur and founder of Hooligan's Productions, a nationally recognized concert promotion company, Dr. Randy Schilsky, chiropractic physician & real estate developer, and Jeff Melendy, a restaurant & night club entrepreneur. Together, they formed Blue Bus Productions, a live music production company focused on promoting large national acts to create the Deppe Agriculture and Music Pavilion, a 10,000 seat live music & entertainment venue.

With a primary focus on Eastern North Carolina and located just outside the city limits of Jacksonville, N.C., in Onslow County (population of over 150,000 and home of the Camp Lejeune Marine Base) Deppe Agriculture and Music Pavilion is already in the planning stages for the 2011 season, which includes a complete concert series, two NTPA Tractor Pulls, a Haunted Trail, Community Festivals, and a Farmers Market.

And as with every event, Deppe Agriculture and Music Pavilion continues to adopt the help of local civic organizations & charities to help with the events and to foster its mission of community support and charitable contribution.
